Back to Projects & Research

The Maximize Project is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences. The primary investigators are Drs. Julie Sarno Owens, Deinera Exner-Cortens, and Elise Cappella.  The goal of the Maximize project is to develop and evaluate innovative resources that help teachers use positive behavioral supports to meet the diverse needs of their students. Through the Maximize Project, we aim to develop two main resources:

  1. An interactive website for teacher professional development. We have previously developed an interactive system for a targeted intervention, the Daily Report Card Online (www.dailyreportcardonline.com). We plan to expand this system to cover multiple universal and targeted behavioral supports, professional development on culturally sensitive and equitable practices, teacher self-assessments and planning guides, student progress monitoring tools, and data-driven guides for intervention modification.
  2. Procedures that build capacity in schools for coaching and supporting teachers’ use of effective and equitable positive behavioral supports. We previously developed procedures for identifying and training individuals within a school system that provide this type of coaching support, and we plan to further develop and refined the trainings with feedback from teachers and administrative collaborators.

An advisory council, comprised of members who represent a diversity of lived experiences, student populations, and geographic locations across North America, will collaborate with the research study team.  To learn more about the members of the advisory council, please visit: Maximize Advisory Council
